Regular Season Round 21: Branik - Grosuplje 87-85

The most exciting game of round 21 in the 2SKL took place in Maribor. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 3rd placed Grosuplje (13-9) to second ranked Branik (14-7) 87-85 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Grosuplje. The hosts trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 23-9 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Grosuplje helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Swingman Marko Cej (192-88) stepped up and scored 37 points (!!!) and 4 assists for the winners and guard Jan Tratnik (190-89) chipped in 6 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Branik's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was point guard Zan Jerman (186-92) with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Matic Sirnik (198-91) scored 18 points and 9 rebounds. Newly promoted Branik maintains second place with 14-7 record having just three points less than leader Terme Olimia. Grosuplje at the other side dropped to the fifth position with nine games lost. Branik are looking forward to face Triglav (#4) in Kranj in the next round. Grosuplje will play at home against Parklji and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
