Very expected game in Lisboa where 9th ranked Sporting (8-14) was defeated by first ranked Uniao Sportiva (20-2) 56-43 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Uniao Sportiva. Sporting was better in fourth quarter 19-8. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Sporting to just 6 points in third quarter. The best player for the winners was Serbian guard Milica Ivanovic (175-88, college: Catawba, agency: LBM Management) who scored 16 points and 5 rebounds. American guard Shaqwedia Wallace (175-89, college: Temple) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Senegalese center Bineta Ndoye (196-93, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who recorded 8 points and 13 rebounds and Spanish Arantxa Mallou (181-91) added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Sporting's coach Ricardo Barata rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Uniao Sportiva have an impressive series of thirteen victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 20-2 record. Newly promoted Sporting dropped to the seventh position with 14 games lost. Uniao Sportiva will face Boa Viagem (#8) in Angra Heroismo in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Sporting will play at home against GDESSA and hope to win that game.
