Regular Season Round 34: ALBA - Giessen 46ers 91-81 OT

Eighth-ranked Giessen 46ers (17-17) were very close to win a game against sixth ranked ALBA Berlin (22-12) on Sunday. ALBA Berlin managed to secure only ten-point victory 91-81. However their fans expected easier game. The game was mostly controlled by ALBA Berlin. Giessen 46ers was better in third quarter 26-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Giessen 46ers used huge pressure winning it 22-20 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 5-15. They outrebounded Giessen 46ers 39-25 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Giessen 46ers were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Brandon Ashley (203-94, college: Arizona) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds. The other American import point guard Robert Lowery (188-87, college: Dayton) contributed with 21 points and 5 assists for the winners. Four ALBA Berlin players scored in double figures. Naturalized Cuban swingman Yorman Polas (192-85) replied with 18 points and 8 rebounds and American guard Braydon Hobbs (196-89, college: Bellarmine) added 9 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals in the effort for Giessen 46ers. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. ALBA Berlin maintains sixth position with 22-12 record. Newly promoted Giessen 46ers keep the eighth place with 17 games lost.
