Regular Season Round 1: Benfica - CD Torres N. 87-74

The game between Top Four teams took place in Lisboa. host Benfica (1-0) defeated CD Torres N. (0-1) 87-74. The game was mostly controlled by Benfica. CD Torres N. was better in fourth quarter 25-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. International point guard Ines Viana (166-94) stepped up and scored 21 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and American forward Taylor Ford (183-94, college: Syracuse) chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds. Four Benfica players scored in double figures. Benfica's coach Andre Cardoso used an eleven-player rotation saving starting five for next games. At the losing side American swingman Norianna Haynes (178, college: Alcorn St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 17 rebounds and the other American import guard Joanna Harden (170-91, college: Troy) scored 26 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Benfica will face Olivais (#10) in Coimbra in the next round and are hoping to win another game. CD Torres N. will play on the road against GDESSA in Barreiro and hope to win that game.
