Regular Season Round 3: Wuerzburg - Speyer 61-55

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Speyer / Schifferstadt (1-1) on the court of Ladybaskets Wuerzburg on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by Ladybaskets Wuerzburg 61-55. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 16-11. But Speyer / Schifferstadt won second period 19-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Ladybaskets Wuerzburg won last quarter 17-12. They also forced 22 Speyer / Schifferstadt turnovers. Strangely Speyer / Schifferstadt outrebounded Ladybaskets Wuerzburg 47-31 including a 34-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for guard Jessika Schiffer (172-0) who led her team to a victory with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Canadian guard Stephanie Kleysen (178, college: Winnipeg) contributed with 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American guard Jennifer Mocanu (172-90) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and forward Martina Kraus (186-90) added 9 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Speyer / Schifferstadt. Ladybaskets Wuerzburg are looking forward to face Keltern II (#10) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Speyer / Schifferstadt will play against ASC Theresianum Mainz (#11) and is hoping to win this game.
