Regular Season Round 5: Chemnitz - Freiburg 52-63

Eisvogel Freiburg's fans can celebrate the first win of their team after four consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Chemnitz, where they defeated ChemCats Chemnitz (1-4) 63-52. After very bad start, ChemCats Chemnitz stormed back in the second period cutting the deficit to 2 points 26-24. But it was not enough and Eisvogel Freiburg took back the control in second half. They dominated on the defensive end, holding ChemCats Chemnitz to just 2 points in first quarter. American swingman Kristen McCarthy (182-90, college: Temple) stepped up and scored 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and power forward Satou Sabally (189-98) chipped in 13 points and 7 rebounds. Four Eisvogel Freiburg players scored in double figures. American forward Merritt Hempe (190-94, college: Georgia) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import guard Maegan Conwright (173-92, college: Florida St.) scored 11 points and 5 assists. Eisvogel Freiburg left bottom position moving up to ninth place, which they share with Chemnitz and Bad Aibling. It was ChemCats Chemnitz's third loss in a row. Eisvogel Freiburg will play against higher ranked Hannover (#6) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. ChemCats Chemnitz will play against Fireballs in Bad Aibling and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
