Regular Season Round 5: Petrochema - Zalgiris II 70-59

Everything could happen in Jonava at the game between two tied teams. Both twelfth ranked Petrochema and 13th ranked Zalgiris II had identical 1-3 record. This time Petrochema used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Kaunas 70-59 on Friday night. The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 70-59. Evaldas Aniulis (190-92, college: High School) stepped up and scored 12 points for the winners and guard Ricardas Verbickas (191-95) chipped in 11 points. Petrochema's coach Kestutis Narusevicius used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Gytis Masiulis (206-98) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds and power forward Laurynas Birutis (213-97) scored 19 points and 5 rebounds. Petrochema (2-3) moved-up to ninth place, which they share with KTU. Loser Zalgiris II dropped to the bottom position with four games lost. Petrochema will face league's leader Suduva-Mantinga in Marijampole in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Zalgiris II will play at home against the league's second-placed Rasai (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
