Regular Season Round 5: Mazeikiai - Ezerunas-Karys 94-91

Rather predictable result when ninth ranked Mazeikiai (3-3) edged at home 11th ranked Ezerunas-Karys (1-4) 94-91 on Friday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Ezerunas-Karys won third quarter 23-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Mazeikiai made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 52.0 percentage. Ezerunas-Karys was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Swingman Kostas Jonuska (195-92) stepped up and scored 21 points for the winners and Tautvydas Paliukenas (192-96, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in 12 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Guard Marius Pociukonis (189-82) responded with 26 points and 4 assists and forward Raimundas Ambrulaitis (200-82) scored 17 points and 9 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Mazeikiai moved-up to eighth place. Ezerunas-Karys lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the twelfth position with four games lost. Mazeikiai will have a break next round. Ezerunas-Karys will play at home against Perlas-MRU (#4) and hope to win that game.
