There was a minor upset when higher ranked Mazeikiai (3-4) lost at home to twelfth ranked Zalgiris II (3-4) 91-78 on Friday. The guests trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 48-33 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Zalgiris II forced 19 Mazeikiai turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was an exceptional evening for guard Kristupas Zemaitis (192-96) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 assists. Power forward Laurynas Birutis (213-97) accounted for 16 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Five Zalgiris II players scored in double figures. Mantas Serksnas (202-96) came up with 26 points and forward Rytis Biliartas (200-91) added 17 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Mazeikiai in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Zalgiris II moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Mazeikiai. Zalgiris II will meet at home higher ranked Perlas-MRU (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Mazeikiai will play against the league's leader Suduva-Mantinga (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.
