There was a minor upset when higher ranked Oldenburg (3-3) was defeated at home by ninth ranked Herzoege Wolfenbuettel (3-3) 82-73 on Sunday. The best player for the winners was American guard Demetrius Ward (188-90, college: W.Michigan) who scored 23 points and 7 rebounds. The other American import center Khalil Kelley (203-91, college: Pacific) chipped in 21 points and 9 rebounds. Ward is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Jan Niklas Wimberg (205-96) who recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds and naturalized Bosnian point guard Robert Drijencic (190-96) added 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. Four Oldenburg players scored in double figures. Herzoege Wolfenbuettel moved-up to fifth place in North, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Oldenburg. Herzoege Wolfenbuettel will face higher ranked AstroStars (#3) in Bochum in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Oldenburg will play on the road against Recklinghausen and hope to win that game.
