Everything went according to plan in Tuebingen where eighth ranked EWE Baskets (5-4) outscored 15th ranked Walter Tigers (2-6) 89-58 on Saturday. They outrebounded Walter Tigers 37-24 including a 29-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Americans were the main players on the court. The best player for the winners was Vaughn Duggins (190-87, college: Wright St.) who scored 20 points. Center Brian Qvale (210-88, college: Montana) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds. Four EWE Baskets players scored in double figures. Center Gary McGhee (209-88, college: Pittsburgh) produced 11 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Jared Jordan (187-84, college: Marist) added 6 points and 7 assists respectively for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. EWE Baskets moved-up to seventh place. Loser Walter Tigers keep the fifteenth position with six games lost. They share it with Vechta. EWE Baskets will meet higher ranked BBC Bayreuth (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Walter Tigers will play against Phoenix Hagen (#18) and hope to secure a win.
