Regular Season Round 8: Westerstede - Aschersleben 76-86

Westerstede (1-1) recorded its first loss at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by seventh ranked Aschersleben (2-1) 86-76. Aschersleben outrebounded Westerstede 40-25 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by Slovenia-Serbian power forward Ljubisa Markovic (212-91) who scored that evening 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and American guard Sharif Hudson (188, college: Ark.-Monticello) supported him with 20 points and 6 rebounds. Four Aschersleben players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 27 points and 12 rebounds by center Till Isemann (208-96) did not help to save the game for Westerstede. Point guard Haris Hujic (193-97) added 12 points and 4 assists for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players saving starting five for next games. Aschersleben moved-up to fourth place in North. Newly promoted Westerstede dropped to the seventh position with one game lost. Aschersleben will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Westerstede will play against the league's second-placed Stade (#2) and hope to win that game.
