Regular Season Round 7: Krofdorf/Gleib. - Gruenberg 55-59

There was a minor upset in Giessen where higher ranked Krofdorf/Gleib. (3-4) was defeated by ninth ranked Baskets Grunberg (3-4) 59-55 on Sunday. Krofdorf/Gleib. was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 8-point lead after three quarters before a 20-8 charge of Baskets Grunberg, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Krofdorf/Gleib. to just 6 points in first quarter. It was a great evening for swingman Isabell Meinhart (178-94) who led her team to a victory scoring 15 points and 4 assists. Canadian forward Vanessa Zailo (180-92, college: Lindenwood) helped adding 13 points and 8 rebounds. At the losing side American forward Chelsea Small (185, college: Indiana St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 15 rebounds and the other American import guard Erin Bratcher (175-92, college: Charleston So.) scored 15 points and 6 rebounds. Baskets Grunberg moved-up to sixth place in North, which they share with Opladen and Krofdorf/Gleib. Baskets Grunberg will face higher ranked Goettingen (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
