There was a small surprise when eleventh ranked Elazig (4-3) defeated on the road 8th ranked Mersin Gelisim (4-3) 68-53 on Sunday. Elazig looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Esen Ozdemir (-89) fired 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American power forward Sharon Houston (191-88, college: IU Northwest) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 14 rebounds. American center Nadia Parker (191-87, college: USC) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds and the former international Fahriye Bayraktar (185-95) added 17 points respectively for lost side. Four Mersin Gelisim players scored in double figures. Elazig moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Mersin Gelisim. Elazig will face Orduspor (#9) at home in the next round.
