Regular Season Round 5: Un.Olimpija - Zlatorog 74-81

The most shocking disappointment of round 5 was a home defeat of 4th placed Un.Olimpija (3-2) to fifth ranked Zlatorog (4-1) 81-74. It ended the three-game winning streak of Un.Olimpija. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Un.Olimpija won third quarter 23-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zlatorog made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Un.Olimpija helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Point guard Jan Span (187-92) stepped up and scored 19 points and 7 assists for the winners and forward Igor Tratnik (207-89) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. Serbian Nikola Jankovic (207-94, agency: BeoBasket) responded with 18 points and 6 rebounds and swingman Blaz Mesicek (197-97) scored 18 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Un.Olimpija's coach Gasper Okorn rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Zlatorog have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Un.Olimpija at the other side dropped to the fifth place with two games lost. They share the position with Rogaska and Lastovka. Zlatorog is looking forward to face Terme Olimia (#10) in Podcetrtek in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Un.Olimpija will play on the road against Sencur Gor. (#8) in Kranj and is hoping to win this game.
