Very important is a home loss of third ranked Mersin Uni (6-2) against sixteenth ranked TED Ankara (3-5) on Friday night. Host Mersin Uni was defeated by TED Ankara in a tough game in Mersin 64-72. TED Ankara forced 19 Mersin Uni turnovers. Strangely Mersin Uni outrebounded TED Ankara 42-30 including 31 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by Nigeria-American power forward Ayesha Barkley (188-87, college: Stetson, agency: Gamble Sports Management) who scored that evening 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and center Derin Yaya (174-97) supported her with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Barkley is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Even a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds by Ukrainian center Olena Staschuk (192-85) did not help to save the game for Mersin Uni. Point guard Merve Uygul (170-88) added 9 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for the hosts. Mersin Uni's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. TED Ankara moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with Edirne and Istanbulgucu. Loser Mersin Uni keeps the third position with two games lost. They share it with Edremit and Izmit. TED Ankara will meet at home Edirne (#16) in the next round. Mersin Uni's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Mersin to the arena Mersin Gelisim.
