Regular Season Round 11: Zalgiris II - Delikatesas 93-88

Everything could happen in Kaunas at the game between two tied teams. Both eleventh ranked Zalgiris II and 13th ranked Delikatesas had identical 3-7 record. This time Zalgiris II used a home court advantage and won against the opponent from Joniskis 93-88. Delikatesas was ahead by 6 points after three quarters before a 28-17 charge of Zalgiris II, which allowed them to win the game. They outrebounded Delikatesas 36-21 including a 26-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Zalgiris II players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Delikatesas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Power forward Laurynas Birutis (213-97) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). Gytis Masiulis (206-98) contributed with 22 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Zalgiris II's coach Tomas Masiulis allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Power forward Gediminas Zalalis (205-95) answered with 22 points and 4 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and forward Darius Griskenas (194-84) added 21 points in the effort for Delikatesas. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Zalgiris II (4-7) moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Palanga. Delikatesas lost sixth consecutive game. They dropped to the eleventh position with eight games lost. Zalgiris II's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Kaunas to the arena KTU.
