Rather predictable result when third ranked Crailsheim Merlins (8-2) beat at home 6th ranked Gladiators (5-5) 76-58 on Saturday. Crailsheim Merlins made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Gladiators turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Finnish Tuukka Kotti (205-81, college: Providence) scored 11 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Martin Bogdanov (186-92) chipped in 5 points and 7 assists during the contest. At the losing side American John Eggleston (203-88, college: Pennsylvania) responded with 10 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Simon Schmitz (188-90) scored 9 points and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Crailsheim Merlins have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 8-2 record behind leader Kirchheim. Loser Gladiators dropped to the seventh place with five games lost. They share the position with Uni Baskets and Oettinger R.. Crailsheim Merlins will meet Ehingen/Urspringschule (#14) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Gladiators will play against the league's second-placed Mitteldeutscher BC (#2) and hope to secure a win.
