Regular Season Round 9: Bayreuth - EWE Baskets 80-71

There was no surprise when 7th ranked EWE Baskets (5-5) were defeated on the road by third ranked BBC Bayreuth (8-1) 80-71 on Sunday. BBC Bayreuth made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game. BBC Bayreuth outrebounded EWE Baskets 40-25 including 25 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American Nate Linhart (201-86, college: Akron) who scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Forward Steve Wachalski (202-83) chipped in 11 points and 8 rebounds. Linhart is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five BBC Bayreuth players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Brian Qvale (210-88, college: Montana) who recorded 22 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import Vaughn Duggins (190-87, college: Wright St.) added 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for BBC Bayreuth. They maintain third place with 8-1 record having just three points less than leader Brose Bask. Loser EWE Baskets dropped to the eighth position with five games lost. BBC Bayreuth will face Walter Tigers (#13) in Tuebingen in the next round and are hoping to win another game. EWE Baskets will play on the road against Eisbaeren Bremerhaven (#12) and hope to win that game.
