Regular Season Round 6: Azovmash - Krivbas-2 98-100 OT

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Azovmash (7-1) in Mariupol on Sunday night. Hosts were edged by second ranked Krivbas-2 (5-1) in overtime 100-98. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Azovmash. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime then Azovmash managed to tie the game at the end of regular time. However that was Krivbas-2 who were better in overtime eventually winning that period 16-14. They also forced 22 Azovmash turnovers. Strangely Azovmash outrebounded Krivbas-2 49-37 including 20 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Azovmash helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Guard Evgeni Sergeychik (185-94) had a double-double by scoring 27 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Sergey Startsev (190-97) chipped in 23 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was guard Kirilo Zuev (193-93) with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists and guard Vladislav Rizhov (190-94) scored 25 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Azovmash players scored in double figures. Krivbas-2 maintains second position with 5-1 record having 2 victories less than leader Hoverla, which they share with Khimik-2. Azovmash at the other side still keeps top place with one game lost. They share the position with Hoverla. Krivbas-2 will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Azovmash will play at home against Niko-Basket and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
