There was a surprise result when sixteenth ranked Edirne (4-6) defeated at home higher ranked Mersin Gelisim (6-4) 74-62 on Saturday. Edirne looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American forward Arhonda Covington (185-85, college: Louisville) fired 31 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Banu Toker (-82, agency: Gamble Sports Management) chipped in 21 points and 9 rebounds. American center Nadia Parker (191-87, college: USC) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 22 rebounds and the former international Fahriye Bayraktar (185-95) added 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Edirne moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with Orduspor and Istanbulgucu. Loser Mersin Gelisim dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. Edirne will face Orduspor (#14) on the road in the next round.
