Very important is a road loss of third ranked Academik Plovdiv (3-2) against fifth ranked Yambol (3-2) on Saturday night. Visiting Academik Plovdiv was defeated by Yambol in Yambol 94-81. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Academik Plovdiv. Yambol dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Academik Plovdiv's 30. The former international center Nikolay Varbanov (209-85, agency: Interperformances) notched 23 points and 5 rebounds to lead the effort and forward Stoyan Petkov (198-85) supported him with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Four Yambol players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 20 points and 15 rebounds by French-American forward Jordan Semple (201-92, college: Chico St.) did not help to save the game for Academik Plovdiv. American point guard Oscar Bellfield (187-90, college: UNLV) added 19 points. Academik Plovdiv's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Yambol moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Akademik PL. Yambol will play against Balkan (#6) in Botevgrad in the next round. Academik Plovdiv will play at home against Spartak Pleven and hopes to get back on the winning track.
