There was an upset when higher ranked Karlsruhe SC (6-4) lost at home to fourteenth ranked Heidelberg USC (2-8) 78-64 on Saturday. Quite impressive performance for Lasse Steinort (195-94, college: Kirtland CC) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 7 rebounds. Constantin Schmitt (200-97) contributed with 23 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Heidelberg USC's coach Ralf Schafer used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Croatian swingman Luka Drezga (196-87) replied with 22 points and 8 rebounds and Portuguese point guard Miguel Cardoso (188-93) added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Karlsruhe SC. Heidelberg USC moved-up to thirteenth place in South-West, which they share with Kaiserslautern. Loser Karlsruhe SC dropped to the fourth position with four games lost. Heidelberg USC will face Kaiserslautern (#14) on the road in the next round. Karlsruhe SC will play against Koblenz (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
