We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 7th ranked Rhein Main Baskets (3-5) lost to eighth ranked Speyer / Schifferstadt (3-4) in Dudenhofen 57-65 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 39-27 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Speyer / Schifferstadt shot 23 for 34 from the free-throw line, while Rhein Main Baskets only scored seven points from the stripe. They outrebounded Rhein Main Baskets 43-30 including a 18-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Rhein Main Baskets were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for forward Uta Gelbke (177-86) who led her team to a victory with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Martina Kraus (186-90) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. The former international point guard Nelli Dietrich (169-89) answered with 15 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Pia Dietrich (168-94) added 14 points in the effort for Rhein Main Baskets. Speyer / Schifferstadt moved-up to seventh place in South. Rhein Main Baskets lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the eighth position with five games lost. Speyer / Schifferstadt will face higher ranked Weiterstadt (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Rhein Main Baskets will play against Keltern II (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
