Regular Season Round 9: Bad Hombur - Jahn Muenchen 65-58

There was a small surprise when sixth ranked Homburger TG (4-3) defeated at home 4th placed Friendsfactory Germering (4-4) 65-58 on Sunday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Friendsfactory Germering won third quarter 21-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a good game for American point guard Elena Popkey (168-94, college: Oakland) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Her fellow American import forward Celia Marfone (183-94, college: Cal-Davis) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. The former international forward Magdalena von Geyr (180-84) answered with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Emily Bessoir (192-1) added 10 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Friendsfactory Germering. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Homburger TG moved-up to fifth place in South. Loser Friendsfactory Germering dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. Homburger TG will face Wasserburg II (#11) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Friendsfactory Germering will play against Ladybaskets Wuerzburg (#3) and hope to win that game.
