Regular Season Round 9: Mainz - Wasserburg II 78-60

Date: November 20, 2016
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 10th ranked Wasserburg II (1-7) lost on the road to eleventh ranked ASC Theresianum Mainz (2-7) 78-60 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by ASC Theresianum Mainz. Wasserburg II was better in fourth quarter 20-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Wasserburg II outrebounded ASC Theresianum Mainz 47-31 including a 21-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for forward Cornelia Sharda (176-84) who led her team to a victory with 20 points and 5 assists. Naturalized Bulgarian guard Gergana Georgieva (181-87) contributed with 15 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. American forward Liz Wood (178-93, college: Maine) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 22 rebounds and Canadian guard Brittany Moore (168-89) added 22 points in the effort for Wasserburg II. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. ASC Theresianum Mainz moved-up to tenth place in South. Wasserburg II lost their sixth game in a row. They dropped to the eleventh position with seven games lost. ASC Theresianum Mainz will have a break next round. Wasserburg II will play at home against Homburger TG (#5) and hope to win that game.
