Regular Season Round 10: Neuss - Wolfenbuettel 82-79

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Wolfpack Wolfenbuettel (9-1) on the court of third ranked TG Neuss on Saturday night. Visitors were edged by TG Neuss 82-79. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Wolfpack Wolfenbuettel. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in North. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Wolfpack Wolfenbuettel won third quarter 20-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when TG Neuss won last quarter 21-20. They also forced 23 Wolfpack Wolfenbuettel turnovers. American guard Marquita Waller (180-88, college: VCU) scored 32 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and power forward Jana Heinrich (188-86, college: San Diego St.) chipped in 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. TG Neuss' coach Janina Pils used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side American forward Alli Gloyd (185-92, college: Arizona) responded with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 15 rebounds and Polish forward Klaudia Grudzien (184-90) scored 12 points and 5 rebounds. TG Neuss (8-1) moved-up to second place in North, which they share with Goettingen. Wolfpack Wolfenbuettel at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. TG Neuss is looking forward to face TuSLi Berlin (#11) in Lichterfelde in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Wolfpack Wolfenbuettel will play at home against the league's second-placed Goettingen (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
