Regular Season Round 5: Istanbul Univ. - Mersin MBK 79-74

Rather predictable result when fourth ranked Istanbul Uni (4-1) defeated at home 8th ranked Mersin MBK (2-3) 79-74 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Istanbul Uni made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. American point guard Tan White (170-82, college: Mississippi St., agency: Josep and Nicolas) stepped up and scored 25 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the winners and Bosnian-Serbian guard Sasa Cado (178-89) chipped in 15 points. Istanbul Uni's coach Firat Okul used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. American center Michelle Snow (196-80, college: Tennessee, agency: LBM Management) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import point guard Jamierra Faulkner (168-92, college: S.Mississippi) scored 21 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Four Mersin MBK players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Istanbul Uni. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Galatasaray and Yakin Dogu BGD. Newly promoted Mersin MBK keeps the eighth position with three games lost. Istanbul Uni will face Galatasaray (#4) in Istanbul in the next round. Mersin MBK will play at home against Samsun (#13) and hope to win that game.
