Regular Season Round 9: Hoverla - Khimik-2 95-68

An interesting game for Hoverla (9-1) which hosted in Frankivsk second-best Khimik-2 (6-4). First ranked Hoverla had an easy win 95-68. The game was mostly controlled by Hoverla. Khimik-2 was better in second period 22-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hoverla dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Khimik-2's 34. They outrebounded Khimik-2 44-30 including 29 on the defensive glass. Hoverla players were unselfish on offense dishing 32 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. The former international center Roman Gumeniuk (220-87) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks for the winners and point guard Kyrylo Podkovyrov (180-96) chipped in 14 points and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was forward Maksym Nikolenko (196-98) with 9 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Olexiy Solovyov (187-97) scored 12 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Hoverla have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place with 9-1 record. Khimik-2 at the other side keeps the second position with four games lost. Hoverla will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Khimik-2 will play at home against KPZO DYUSH and hopes to get back on the winning track.
