The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Bornova (10-2) on the court of eighth ranked Mersin Uni on Wednesday night. Visitors were edged by Mersin Uni 56-55. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Bornova. Mersin Uni forced 24 Bornova turnovers. Strangely Bornova outrebounded Mersin Uni 52-39 including a 44-33 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Ilkay Masa (186-84) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Merve Uygul (170-88) who added 15 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was American center Chanita Jordan (196-87, college: Bowie St., agency: Gamble Sports Management) with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 20 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and the former international forward Nazli Guler (184-82, agency: 1x1 Sports) scored 12 points and 8 rebounds. Mersin Uni (8-4) moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Mersin Gelisim. Bornova at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost. They share it with Edremit. Mersin Uni is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Anadolu Univ. (#20) in Eskisehir in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Bornova will play at home against Edirne (#16) and is hoping to win this game.
