Regular Season Round 17: Bipa Basket - Khimik 63-79

Leader Khimik delivered the thirteenth victory. This time they beat 5th ranked Bipa Basket (9-7) 79-63 in Odessa. The game was mostly controlled by Khimik. Bipa Basket was better in second period 20-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 16-of-19 charity shots (84.2 percent) during the game. Khimik outrebounded Bipa Basket 40-29 including 26 on the defensive glass. American point guard Jaime Smith (190-89, college: Al.-Huntsville) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points and 7 assists. His fellow American import center Jason Love (206-87, college: Xavier) contributed with 16 points and 9 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the winners. Khimik's coach Vitali Stepanovski allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American guard Kenney Funderburk (193-92, college: Columbus St., agency: AproK Sports Group) answered with 22 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and the former international point guard Klym Artamonov (185-93) added 12 points and 4 assists in the effort for Bipa Basket. Khimik have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 13-1 record. Bipa Basket at the other side keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. Khimik will play against league's second-placed Budivelnyk in Kyiv in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Bipa Basket will play at home against Cherkasy and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
