LPB top team - Benfica (8-1) managed to deliver another win on Saturday. This time they beat tenth ranked Lusitania (2-7) in Angra 91-82. The guests trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 11-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 91-82. It was a great shooting night for Benfica especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Naturalized Angolan guard Carlos Morais (200-85, agency: Duran International) stepped up and scored 23 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and international forward Joao Soares (202-90, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American guard Anthony Holliday (191-92, college: Lamar) with 20 points and 4 assists and the other American import center Chris Matagrano (206-90, college: New Hampshire) scored 18 points and 9 rebounds. Five Benfica and four Lusitania players scored in double figures. Benfica maintains first place with 8-1 record. Lusitania lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with seven games lost. Benfica will face Galitos-Barreiro (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Lusitania will play against CAB Madeira (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
