Eighth-ranked SV Halle Lions (3-7) were very close to win a game against fifth ranked BC Pharmaserv Marburg (7-4) on Saturday. BC Pharmaserv Marburg managed to secure only nine-point victory 86-77. However their fans expected easier game. The hosts trailed by 6 points after three quarters before their 17-11 charge, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time and get a 9-point victory in overtime. BC Pharmaserv Marburg made 30-of-35 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. SV Halle Lions were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international power forward Svenja Greunke (188-89) orchestrated the victory by scoring 27 points and 8 rebounds. Bulgarian power forward Diana Voynova (192-88, college: Duquesne) contributed with 19 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American point guard Janee Thompson (170-93, college: Kentucky) answered with 15 points and 7 assists and the other American import forward Kaneisha Horn (185-92, college: USC, agency: Two Points) added 9 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for SV Halle Lions. Four SV Halle Lions players scored in double figures. BC Pharmaserv Marburg moved-up to fourth place. SV Halle Lions at the other side dropped to the ninth position with seven games lost. BC Pharmaserv Marburg will face ChemCats Chemnitz (#8) on the road in the next round. SV Halle Lions will play against TH Wohnbau Angels in Noerdlingen and hope to win that game.
