Regular Season Round 11: Bad Hombur - Mainz 83-69

Very predictable result when fourth ranked Homburger TG (6-3) beat at home 10th ranked ASC Theresianum Mainz (2-8) 83-69. It looked good early as ASC Theresianum Mainz took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Homburger TG had a 22-17 second period charge getting the lead and ASC Theresianum Mainz was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 69-83. Homburger TG forced 19 ASC Theresianum Mainz turnovers. It was a great shooting night for Homburger TG especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.0 percentage. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Celia Marfone (183-94, college: Cal-Davis) who led the winners and scored 22 points and 9 rebounds. Her fellow American import point guard Elena Popkey (168-94, college: Oakland) accounted for 16 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side. Naturalized Bulgarian guard Gergana Georgieva (181-87) came up with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 17 rebounds and guard Astrid Baumgartner (175-95) added 18 points respectively for ASC Theresianum Mainz in the defeat. Homburger TG have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place in South. ASC Theresianum Mainz at the other side dropped to the ninth position with eight games lost. Homburger TG's next round opponent will be Ladybaskets Wuerzburg (#4) on the road. ASC Theresianum Mainz will play against the league's leader BasCats Heidelberg (#1) and hope to win that game.
