Everything went according to plan when eighth ranked Cankaya (9-4) outplayed 17th ranked Mersin Kurtulus (3-11) in Ankara 87-61 on Friday. Cankaya forced 19 Mersin Kurtulus turnovers and outrebounded them 41-24 including 27 on the defensive glass. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 57.1 percentage. Cankaya looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Mersin Kurtulus' players. American-Azerbaijani center Marcedes Marie Walker (191-86, college: Pittsburgh) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international forward Seda Tabakci (188-85) contributed with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American forward Corinne Costa (193, college: UCLA) replied with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks and Seda Ozturk (-94) added 12 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Mersin Kurtulus. Five Cankaya and four Mersin Kurtulus players scored in double figures. Mersin Kurtulus' coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Cankaya moved-up to seventh place. Loser Mersin Kurtulus keeps the seventeenth position with 11 games lost. Cankaya will face Elazig (#9) on the road in the next round.
