Regular Season Round 9: H-Sirenos - Ukmerges 90-66

Bottom-ranked Ukmerges is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their tenth consecutive match to fifth ranked Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas (5-5) 90-66 on Saturday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas. Ukmerges managed to win fourth quarter 19-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Ukmerges' 32. Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas forced 23 Ukmerges turnovers and outrebounded them 46-33 including a 23-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Forward Akvile Baronenaite (185-93) nailed 26 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and international point guard Gabriele Gutkauskaite (175-90) accounted for 16 points and 10 rebounds. Four Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas players scored in double figures. Forward Martyna Petrenaite (181-98) came up with 26 points and 9 rebounds and Monika Petrauskaite (182-92) added 16 points and 6 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) respectively for Ukmerges in the defeat. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Fortuna and Siauliai-Univ. Newly promoted Ukmerges still closes the standings with ten games lost. Hoptrans-Sirenos Kaunas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Ukmerges will play against the league's second-placed Kibirkstis (#2) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
