Regular Season Round 11: Lusitania - Sampaense 88-83

Date: December 10, 2016
Rather predictable result when tenth ranked Lusitania (3-8) won against bottom-ranked Sampaense (1-10) in Angra 88-83 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 7 points after three quarters before their 30-18 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Lusitania made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game, while Sampaense only scored three points from the stripe. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Garrius Holloman (198-89, college: Beth.-Cookman) who led the winners and scored 26 points and 9 rebounds. Naturalized Angolan forward Antonio Monteiro (204-89) accounted for 19 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Holloman is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American guard Andrew Guillory (190, college: Arkansas Tech) came up with 19 points and 7 rebounds and Serbian swingman Nikola Pavlovic (195-93, agency: Dynamics Global Management) added 14 points respectively for Sampaense in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Lusitania moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Electrico FC. Newly promoted Sampaense stay at the bottom position with ten games lost. Lusitania will meet higher ranked Galitos-Barreiro (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sampaense will play against CAB Madeira (#8) in Funchal and hope to win that game.
