Regular Season Round 11: Maia Basket - FC Porto 66-90

LPB top team - FC Porto Ferpinta (9-2) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed eleventh ranked Maia Basket (2-9) 90-66. It looked good early as Maia Basket took a 5-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then FC Porto Ferpinta had a 31-12 second period charge getting the lead and Maia Basket was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 66-90. FC Porto Ferpinta dominated on the defensive end, holding Maia Basket to just 7 points in third quarter. FC Porto Ferpinta forced 19 Maia Basket turnovers and outrebounded Maia Basket 35-24 including 24 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for Serbian power forward Sasa Borovnjak (206-89, college: Penn St., agency: 011 Sports) who led his team to a victory scoring 32 points and 5 rebounds (on 13-of-15 shooting from the field). American center Nick Washburn (208-91, college: Hillsdale, agency: Duran International) helped adding 11 points and 9 rebounds. Washburn is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The former international forward Nuno Marcal (205-75) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 14 rebounds and the former international center David Gomes (200-86) scored 10 points and 6 assists. Four Maia Basket players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. FC Porto Ferpinta have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 9-2 record, which they share with Benfica and Galitos-Barreiro. Maia Basket lost fifth consecutive game. Maia Basket at the other side keeps the eleventh position with nine games lost. FC Porto Ferpinta will play against Electrico FC (#9) in Ponte de Sor in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Maia Basket will play at home against Oliveirense and hopes to get back on the winning track.
