Regular Season Round 9: Boa Viagem - Olivais 66-75

An interesting game was played in Angra Heroismo where Olivais (#1) beat host Boa Viagem (#6) 75-66 on Saturday evening. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Boa Viagem was trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 23-11 charge of Olivais, which allowed them to win the game. They also forced 21 Boa Viagem turnovers. Nigerian-American guard Ezinne Kalu (173-92, college: Savannah St.) stepped up and scored 19 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners and American forward Ladondra Johnson (178, college: Young Harris) chipped in 20 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American center Daina Grazulis (190, college: Davenport) with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import swingman Alexis Govan (178-93, college: W.Kentucky) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. Olivais (7-3) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place, which they share with Uniao Sportiva. Loser Boa Viagem keeps the sixth position with four games lost. Olivais will meet league's leader Uniao Sportiva in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Boa Viagem will play against CD Torres N. (#11) and hope to secure a win.
