There was no surprise when 8th ranked EWE Baskets (8-8) were defeated on the road by fifth ranked ALBA Berlin (11-5) 81-63 on Thursday. The best player for the winners was American Tony Gaffney (206-84, college: Massachusetts, agency: Octagon Europe) who scored 21 points and 4 assists (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field). Serbian swingman Dragan Milosavljevic (198-89) chipped in 15 points and 5 assists. Belgian Maxime De Zeeuw (206-87) produced 7 points and 8 rebounds and American center Brian Qvale (210-88, college: Montana) added 14 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for ALBA Berlin. They maintain fifth place with 11-5 record. Loser EWE Baskets dropped to the seventh position with eight games lost. They share it with Ludwigsburg and Giessen 46ers. ALBA Berlin will meet SC Rasta Vechta (#17) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. EWE Baskets will play against Walter Tigers (#15) and hope to secure a win.
