Everything could happen in Bursa at the game between two tied teams. Both ninth ranked Tofas and 11th ranked Istanbul BBSK had identical 5-7 record. This time Tofas used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Istanbul 86-81 on Friday night. Tofas looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Dominican-American swingman Sammy Mejia (198-83, college: De Paul) fired a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Bulgarian power forward Kaloyan Ivanov (205-86, agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds (made all of his ten free throws !!!). Four Tofas players scored in double figures. American guard Sean Armand (196-91, college: Iona) produced 24 points and 9 rebounds and Swedish-Croatian power forward Damir Markota (209-85, agency: XL Basketball Agency) added 22 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Istanbul BBSK's coach Ertugrul Erdogan rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the third consecutive win for Tofas. They moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Yesilgiresun and Demir IBB. Loser Istanbul BBSK keeps the eleventh position with eight games lost. Tofas will face Yesilgiresun Bld (#8) in Giresun in the next round. Istanbul BBSK will play at home against Banvit and hope to win that game.
