Very expected game when 16th ranked Titans (2-15) lost to eighth ranked Gladiators (9-8) in Trier 64-78 on Saturday. Point guard Kevin Smit (183-91) orchestrated the victory by scoring 27 points. American swingman Brandon Spearman (196-91, college: Hawaii) contributed with 21 points for the winners. Spearman is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Helge Baues (205-94) answered with 14 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and American guard Marqueze Coleman (193, college: Nevada) added 15 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Titans. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Gladiators maintains eighth place with 9-8 record. Newly promoted Titans stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Gladiators will face Uni Baskets (#11) in Paderborn in the next round. Titans will play on the road against ETB Wohnbau (#15) in Essen and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
