Regular Season Round 18: EWE Baskets - Walter Tigers 86-82
Date: January 8, 2017
There was no surprise in Oldenburg where 16th ranked Walter Tigers (3-14) were defeated by seventh ranked EWE Baskets (9-8) 86-82 on Sunday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. EWE Baskets made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. Walter Tigers were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Belgian Maxime De Zeeuw (206-87) who scored 18 points. The former international Philipp Schwethelm (201-89) chipped in 20 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four EWE Baskets players scored in double figures. EWE Baskets' coach Mladen Drijencic used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Stanton Kidd (202-92, college: Colorado St.) who recorded 24 points and 6 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Jared Jordan (187-84, college: Marist) added 6 points and 11 assists respectively. EWE Baskets moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Telekom Bsk. Walter Tigers lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the sixteenth position with 14 games lost. EWE Baskets will face Deutsche Bank Skyliners (#11) in Frankfurt in the next round where they are favorite. Walter Tigers will play at home against Science City Jena (#12) and hope to win that game.
