There was no surprise in Samokov where 8th ranked Yambol (3-8) was defeated by fifth ranked Rilski (6-6) 102-90 on Sunday. Rilski made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. Rilski outrebounded Yambol 39-18 including a 14-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. American forward D.J. Shelton (208-91, college: Washington St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners and his fellow American import forward Evan Bruinsma (202-92, college: Detroit Mercy, agency: Inception Sports) chipped in 19 points and 4 assists. At the losing side guard Ventsislav Petkov (188-91, agency: Interperformances) responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 assists and the former international center Nikolay Varbanov (209-85, agency: Interperformances) scored 16 points and 8 rebounds. Four Rilski and five Yambol players scored in double figures. Rilski maintains fifth place with 6-6 record. Yambol lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with eight games lost. Rilski will meet Spartak Pleven (#6) on the road in the next round. Yambol will play against the league's leader Lukoil Acad. and hope to secure a win.
