Regular Season Round 16: Westerstede - Vechta II 58-88

Very expected game when 9th ranked Westerstede (3-7) was crushed at home by fifth ranked Vechta-2 (6-5) 88-58 on Saturday. Vechta-2 dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Westerstede's 22. Vechta-2 forced 21 Westerstede turnovers and outrebounded them 48-26 including a 37-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Kazembe Abif (201-92, college: Drexel) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds and Croatian center Neven Zeravica (205-88, college: W.Virg.Wesl.) who added 22 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Abif is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the losing side American forward Nigel Pruitt (201-94, college: Kennesaw St.) responded with 15 points and 8 rebounds and power forward Marcel Kessen (207-97) scored 13 points. Westerstede's coach Milos Stankovic gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Vechta-2 have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position in North with 6-5 record. Newly promoted Westerstede keeps the ninth place with seven games lost. Vechta-2 will face league's leader Stade at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Westerstede will play against Hannover Korb. (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
