Regular Season Round 16: Rendsburg - Weser Bsk/BTS 85-80

The game between closely ranked teams ended with sixth ranked Rendsburg's (5-5) home victory over 7th ranked Weser Bsk/BTS (4-8) 85-80 on Saturday. Rendsburg forced 26 Weser Bsk/BTS turnovers. Strangely Weser Bsk/BTS outrebounded Rendsburg 53-34 including 38 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Rendsburg made 8 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman Martell Collins (196-93, college: SW Oklahoma St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds and center Christopher Geist (208-95) who added 19 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Rendsburg's coach Bjarne Homfeldt used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side American center Edward Seward (206-78, college: Norfolk St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and forward Lars Kaniok (195-80) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. Four Weser Bsk/BTS players scored in double figures. Rendsburg have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain sixth position in North with 5-5 record. Weser Bsk/BTS lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the seventh place with eight games lost. Rendsburg will face league's second-placed RW Cuxhaven on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Weser Bsk/BTS will play against Wusterhausen (#11) and hope to win that game.
