Regular Season Round 13: Halle - Chemnitz 73-59

We should mention about the upset which took place in Halle, where higher ranked ChemCats Chemnitz (5-8) lost to eleventh ranked SV Halle Lions (4-8) in a road game 59-73 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by SV Halle Lions. ChemCats Chemnitz managed to win third quarter 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding ChemCats Chemnitz to just 7 points in first quarter. SV Halle Lions dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to ChemCats Chemnitz's 32. The game was dominated by American players. Point guard Janee Thompson (170-93, college: Kentucky) stepped up and scored 27 points for the winners and forward Sarah Hammond (188-93, college: Louisville) chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds. SV Halle Lions' coach Rene Spandauw used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side guard Maegan Conwright (173-92, college: Florida St.) responded with 29 points and 5 rebounds and forward Merritt Hempe (190-94, college: Georgia) scored 14 points and 8 rebounds. SV Halle Lions moved-up to tenth place. Loser ChemCats Chemnitz keeps the seventh position with eight games lost. They share it with Donau-Ries and Bad Aibling. SV Halle Lions will meet bottom-ranked Rotenburg/Scheessel (#12) on the road in the next round. ChemCats Chemnitz will play against Hannover (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
