Regular Season Round 15: Benfica - Maia Basket 89-66

LPB top team - Benfica (12-3) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed ninth ranked Maia Basket (3-12) 89-66. They outrebounded Maia Basket 47-34 including 33 on the defensive glass. Benfica players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was a great evening for American power forward Raven Barber (206, college: Mt.St.Mary's) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. Naturalized Angolan guard Carlos Morais (200-85, agency: Duran International) helped adding 11 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Benfica players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was point guard Pedro Catarino (184-90) with 21 points and the former international forward Nuno Marcal (205-75) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Benfica have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 12-3 record, which they share with FC Porto. Maia Basket at the other side dropped to the tenth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Lusitania. Benfica will play against Illiabum (#6) in Ilhavo in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Maia Basket will play at home against Lusitania (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
