Regular Season Round 16: Kaiserslautern - Mainz 76-62

There was an upset when higher ranked Mainz (5-10) was defeated on the road by fourteenth ranked Kaiserslautern (4-11) 76-62 on Sunday. Kaiserslautern dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Mainz's 22 and made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Kaiserslautern forced 22 Mainz turnovers and outrebounded them 45-30 including a 34-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Waldemar Nap (202-93) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds and American point guard Japhet McNeil (183-85, college: Bridgeport) who added 18 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 8 steals during the contest. Worth to mention McNeil played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. At the losing side guard Christian Zander (188-85) responded with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and Indian-American point guard Anish Sharda (188-82, college: St.Mary's, KS) scored 15 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Kaiserslautern moved-up to twelfth place in South-West, which they share with Saarlouis/Dillingen. Loser Mainz keeps the ninth position with ten games lost. Kaiserslautern will face Saarlouis/Dillingen (#13) in the next round.
