Regular Season Round 13: Bad Hombur - Speyer 73-61

Date: January 15, 2017
Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both fourth ranked Homburger TG and 5th ranked Speyer / Schifferstadt had identical 6-4 record. This time Homburger TG used a home court advantage and won against the opponent from Dudenhofen 73-61. The game was mostly controlled by Homburger TG. Speyer / Schifferstadt was better in fourth quarter 21-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a very good performance for American forward Celia Marfone (183-94, college: Cal-Davis) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 25 points and 23 rebounds. Her fellow American import point guard Elena Popkey (168-94, college: Oakland) contributed with 18 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Homburger TG's coach Jay Brown allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Canadian forward Kathryn Verboom (179-86) answered with 15 points and 7 rebounds and forward Uta Gelbke (177-86) added 11 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Speyer / Schifferstadt. Homburger TG maintains fourth place in South with 7-4 record. Speyer / Schifferstadt at the other side keeps the fifth position with five games lost. Homburger TG's next round opponent will be Keltern II (#9) on the road which should be theoretically an easy game. Speyer / Schifferstadt will play against Ladybaskets Wuerzburg (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
